• Yacht Club of Sea Isle City

    August 21st, 2009

For Sea Isle Folk, below is miniaturized building to be presented to

membership Saturday night that would replace the current

Yacht Club.  Vote on whether to move forward will take place shortly

thereafter. Word is completion could be as early as summer 2011.

Beautiful building on one of the prettiest plots of land in Sea Isle City. Let’s hope it passes.

    Teddy’s report of Wednesday afternoon:

    August 19, 2009-Wed 10pm

As you all probably know by now, we are looking at insane swell from
Hurricane Bill! Seas will begin to rapidly build Friday as the
groundswell fills in, and by Saturday afternoon we could see 10ft surf.
Winds will be southerly so it may be bumpy, but it could switch
offshore by late Saturday afternoon as the storm nears our coast.
Sunday morning is looking all-time with 12ft seas at 16 seconds and
    NW winds.
The only drawback is that there may be TOO much swell at
many spots, but I’m sure everyone will get their fill. The swell will be
WAY down Monday but it should still be really good. Have fun and stay
tuned for at least one more update before Saturday.

Went for a bike ride this a.m. as little bubba was up and ready to party.  Sunrise was at 6:16.   None of these shots would have been taken had I not heard “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy at 5:30. Painful at times are the early mornings, but gratifying after that first cup of coffee.  Note the seas.  Light southeast knee-high chop.  48 hours from now, it’ll be 10 feet.

The dredging has now made its way to 40th street.

    BEACH FILL PROJECT

The dredge Illinois continues to pump sand onto the beaches of Sea Isle City from its location in Corson’s Inlet adjacent to Strathmere.  Beach fill operations are now completed in the north end of the City.

The beach fill has moved downtown, from 40th Street to 52nd Street.  The downtown work is expected to take place between about August 17th and the last week of August. The sand is conveyed via a pipeline, which extends from the dredge in Corson’s Inlet to the area of the fill.  The pipe will eventually extend all the way to 52nd Street.  Once the beach fill is completed, it will take several days to dismantle the pipeline.  All beaches will remain open during the project with the exception of about four to six blocks in the area of the fill.  As the fill moves to the south, the beaches behind the fill will be reopened and the beaches in front of the fill will be closed.

Congratulations to Sea Isle City Mayor, City Council and City Manager.  The changes throughout town are well received and we look forward to even more improvements in the future.  Here are some that have all taken place in only the last 4 only months:

    • County open space lot at JFK BLVD. Landscaping, newly sodded and lighting.  Great place for the weekly free children’s movies and surf movies:

    • Gillian’s Funland Amusement Park.  My kids love it:

Terry Martin has been a shaper, currently for Hobie surfboards, for a long long long time. He claims to have shaped 75,000 boards. Check him out as he walks through the shaping of a perfect noserider. In admiring his work, you can understand why boards can exceed a thousand bucks these days…

This dude is old school “I bought this particular saw in 1963, and it’s never been sharpened.”

That’s two in a row! It has been a while, I know.  I tried to put that badge to the right

in the blog, but can’t figure it out and I’m losing patience and I have to go to the

bathroom.   Click on it if you like.

All is good in Sea Isle this summer.  Biz is great.  Thanks to all of the great B Dog customers.

Sea Isle folk, friend John Clark passed this photo along that he obtained from the SIC Historical Museum.  It’s a shot of his house (second from left) taken 115 years ago.  The photographer would be standing just about where the Bubba Dogs cart resides today on 59th Street. Notice the train tracks that run along what is now Pleasure Avenue.

    June 16th, 2009

Congratulations to former player, Andrew Bynum, for

winning the NBA Championship Sunday night.  I’m sure he

would attribute it all to his 8th grade coach…

A belated congrats to former student Rebecca Soni for winning Olympic gold and setting a world record in the 200 m backstroke in Beijing last summer. I’m sure she would attribute it all to her 8th grade social studies teacher.

    Happy summer all…

    Jack Johnson bio from Yahoo:
Before Jack Johnson perfected his rock star ways, he was a champion surfer on the professional route, with a sponsorship with Quiksilver. It was a life that was second nature for the Hawaiian native, for he began chasing waves as a toddler, and by the time he was 17, he was an outstanding athlete on the pipeline. However, Johnson was also testing his other creative outlets — one being film and the other being music. It was during his college years as a film student at University of California at Santa Barbara when Johnson began writing songs. He and old mates Chris Malloy and Emmett Malloy produced a surf cinema documentary entitled Thicker Than Water, in turn spotlighting Johnson as a talented cinematographer as well as a burgeoning singer/songwriter. His peers in and around the surf circuit praised his work, and Thicker Than Water received props in Surfer magazine for Video of the Year during 2000. The follow-up surf flick The September Sessions also earned the Adobe Highlight Award at the ESPN Film Festival that same year.Still, Johnson steered away from a blossoming pro sports career and stuck with music — something that would soon earn him additional honors. G. Love & Special Sauce quickly took notice to Johnson’s lazy blues stylings, which also molded folk and hip-hop for a modern rock twist, and included Johnson on “Rodeo Clowns” from G. Love’s 1999 release Philadelphonic. Johnson’s four-track demo also caught the ears of Ben Harper’s right-hand man, J.P. Plunier. This was surely mind-blowing for Johnson, for Harper’s college rock mainstay Fight for Your Mind was one of his favorites and remained an inspiration. Aside from Plunier’s production work, Harper also added his lap steel guitar work on Johnson’s sultry debut, Brushfire Fairytales (Enjoy Records), in winter 2001.Two co-headlining tours followed throughout spring and summer 2002; Johnson’s sophomore effort, On and On, appeared in May 2003. Stateside dates with Harper followed in June and July. A third album, In Between Dreams arrived in March 2005, narrowly missing the top of the Billboard album chart in the process. Johnson earned two Brit Awards for In Between Dreams: International Male Solo Artist and International Breakthrough Act. In February, Johnson issued the soundtrack Curious George. Nielsen SoundScan sales topped at 163,000 copies in its first week of release, earning Johnson his first-ever number one album on Billboard’s Top 200 and Rock Albums charts. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
