All Bubba Dog apparel is now on sale. Shoot me an email if interested and we’ll make arrangements to mail it on out. (bubbadogs@comcast.net). Limited quantities remain (no kidding), so get on it now! (apologies that Phillies widget is covering up orange shirt. I’m no html wiz, so I can’t fix it. The orange logo is the same as the red long sleeve).

Best year yet at Bubba Dogs. Thanks everybody…
Springsteen is playing halftime of this year’s Super Bowl. Couldn’t embed, but click link below for what is my favorite Springsteen tune (today anyway). AC, Dad’s hometown…
Brendan Borek loved to surf. He spent many hours on the beach with his friends waiting for the incoming high tides — which brought about the best surfing conditions. So it was natural for his friends to wish him “high tides” during his struggle with cancer.
In keeping with that same shared feeling of community good will, Brendan’s Fund strives to provide “High Tides” conditions for local Cape May County families who have a child or young adult with cancer. A number of events will be held next week, including Tuesday’s art expo at the Avalon Yacht Club (Bubba and Malcom Flynn may show up to play a couple of tunes) and a surf contest on Thursday in Avalon. Hot dogs: Best in show
We put franks to the taste test.
By Keri Fisher
For The Inquirer
You might say hot dogs are as American as apple pie.
Except we eat 10 times as many hot dogs a year as slices of pie, according to the market research group NPD. average american has 20 a year.apple pie: an average american eats two servings of apple pie per year.
We down most of our dogs - roughly 7 billioncq that b - between Memorial Day and Labor Day, according to the Washington-based National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. That’s 818 hot dogs consumed every second during that time frame.
And on Independence Day alone, we’llAmericans eat 150 millioncq m hot dogs.
Philadelphia ranked fourth in the top hot-dog-consuming cities of 2007, with $46 million worth of franks eaten. New York$103.6m,, Los Angeles$86.4m and Baltimore/Washington$51.1m beat us out.
But what’s the best-tasting hot dog? That’s a matter of personal preference, of course.
We asked adults and children to participate in a taste test, using eight popular supermarket brands of hot dogs.
Three were all beef (Nathan’s Famous, Hebrew National, Dietz & Watson); three were a mixture of beef, pork, chicken and/or turkey (Oscar Mayer, Ball Park, Hatfield Phillies); and two were organic, uncured brands from Whole Foods (Applegate Beef and Wellshire Turkey). The hot dogs were simply boiled and tasted plain without mustard or rolls.
second Nathan’s was the clear victor on the adult side, finishing a full 2 points ahead of runner-up Hebrew National.Ball Park was a distant third, with the remaining dogs falling further behind. Wellshire All Natural Uncured Turkey dogs were rated dead last by almost all of the tasters.
TASTE TEST RESULTSHot dogs are ranked in order of preference, with tasters’ comments and price information.TOP DOGS
#1: Nathan’s Skinless Beef Frankseachprice per package divided by #ofdogs.: Tasters liked the “good spice flavor” of these top-rated dogs, calling them “simply delicious.”
Hebrew National Beef Frankseach: “Balanced” and “flavorful,” these kosher franks were deemed by more than one taster to be “salty but pretty good.”
Ball Park Franks: Fans of these franks praised the “mild” flavor; most agreed with the taster who deemed them “generally good.”IN THE DOG HOUSE
Hatfield Phillies Franks: : Several tasters complained of a “soft,” “mushy” texture.
Applegate Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dogs: h Though some tasters praised the “smoky,” “meaty” flavor, most complained of the “tough skin” that made these organic franks “too chewy.”
Dietz and Watson Deli Beef Franks:h “Tastes like school hot dogs,” one taster wrote of these middle-of-the-road franks that were most often described simply as “plain.”
Oscar Mayer Weiners: Many complained of the “artificial” flavor and “manufactured” appearance of these popular dogs, though some tasters liked the “smoky” flavor and “nice spice.”
Wellshire All Natural Turkey Uncured Premium Franksach: “I had no idea a hot dog could be this disgusting,” one taster wrote of this last-place finisher; others agreed, calling it “gross,” “weird” and “scary looking.”

For Sea Isle City folk, this story appeared in the AC Press 10 days ago. In speaking with some “in the know,” a plan on the table after renovations are complete to marina (see story) is to build amusements (yes, for kids!). Those that long for the days of Fun City may soon see bumper cars back in Sea Isle.

SEA ISLE CITY - City Council is planning $3 million in renovations and additions to its marina, including a Boardwalk-type walkway along the back bay.At a meeting Tuesday, council introduced a $4.4 million borrowing plan that would allocate money for the Sea Isle City Marina, located along 42nd Place near the main entrance to the city from the Garden State Parkway.
City officials said the marina work will include a new bulkhead and a raised walkway about a 1,000 feet long.
City Council president John Divney said the marina work fits into the city’s plan to make the area more attractive to visitors.
At age 25, I spent a good amount of time in Australia and spent my days on the beach and playing in this stuff (Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Bondi, etc…) Though my ability was not nearly that of the local populace, that trip remains a life highlight. These pix tell a bit of the story…
Is there any better feeling for a Phils fan then to watch what we did to the Muts last night? Jahan Santana pitches a gem through 8, only to watch his bullpen blow another game.
Best summer for waves in recent memory with still more swell on the way.
Teddy’s latest:
July 22, 2008-Tues 6am
Looks like the swell from Cristobol is way down this morning, but don’t worry we have more surf on the way. A south windswell is going to build Wednesday from an approaching frontal system. By Thursday morning, seas will be in the 5-7ft range with winds going offshore sometime before lunch. Should be fun in the afternoon, and still plenty ridable on Friday. The longrange shows another swell to fill in Sunday. Stay tuned…TeddyD
Avalon Players, a great organization that puts on a different play every summer starring the little ones from the Sea Isle/Avalon/Stone Harbor area, is showing Beauty and the Beast this year. One of the little Bubba Dogs is in it as are several of the b dog nieces. It’s always a great show and a nice alternative to the shore vacation experience. This year the play is from August 1st-3rd. Check out their site: Avalon Players
This was the first competition where all 15 patrols from Brigantine-south participated. It was Sea Isle’s biggest out of town win in the history of the patrol. All of the same patrols will participate in the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships on Friday, August 8th in Ventnor. Playing that night at the Borgata are The Counting Crows and Maroon 5. Sea Isle Beach Patrol alumni and friends that would like to join us are most welcome! Send me an email and I’ll gladly fill in the details. Going to be a great night.

Couple of big wins in the Bubba Dog family. Daughter MC won the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s mascot school sand flags race and son TM on the podium after capturing the July 4th Junior Olympics long jump.
Max and I have been buddies since we were his daughter Sammy’s and my daughter Mattie’s age (7). Here they are after SICBP Mascot races. Sea Isle lifers…
