Mahatma Ghandi was nominated 5 times for the Nobel Peace Prize and never won it. Thomas Friedman, a left-leaning centrist (my opinion), even criticizes bestowing the award to President Obama. He does, however, offer an intriguing piece on what should be said at the December 10th award ceremony in Oslo:

President Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize with grace by honoring American leadership. In Oslo, he should take this instinct a step further.
