As you all probably know by now, we are looking at insane swell from
Hurricane Bill! Seas will begin to rapidly build Friday as the
groundswell fills in, and by Saturday afternoon we could see 10ft surf.
Winds will be southerly so it may be bumpy, but it could switch
offshore by late Saturday afternoon as the storm nears our coast. Sunday morning is looking all-time with 12ft seas at 16 seconds and
NW winds. The only drawback is that there may be TOO much swell at
many spots, but I’m sure everyone will get their fill. The swell will be
WAY down Monday but it should still be really good. Have fun and stay
tuned for at least one more update before Saturday.

Went for a bike ride this a.m. as little bubba was up and ready to party. Sunrise was at 6:16. None of these shots would have been taken had I not heard “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy at 5:30. Painful at times are the early mornings, but gratifying after that first cup of coffee. Note the seas. Light southeast knee-high chop. 48 hours from now, it’ll be 10 feet.

The dredging has now made its way to 40th street.
BEACH FILL PROJECT
The dredge Illinois continues to pump sand onto the beaches of Sea Isle City from its location in Corson’s Inlet adjacent to Strathmere. Beach fill operations are now completed in the north end of the City.
The beach fill has moved downtown, from 40th Street to 52nd Street. The downtown work is expected to take place between about August 17th and the last week of August. The sand is conveyed via a pipeline, which extends from the dredge in Corson’s Inlet to the area of the fill. The pipe will eventually extend all the way to 52nd Street. Once the beach fill is completed, it will take several days to dismantle the pipeline. All beaches will remain open during the project with the exception of about four to six blocks in the area of the fill. As the fill moves to the south, the beaches behind the fill will be reopened and the beaches in front of the fill will be closed.

Congratulations to Sea Isle City Mayor, City Council and City Manager. The changes throughout town are well received and we look forward to even more improvements in the future. Here are some that have all taken place in only the last 4 only months:
County open space lot at JFK BLVD. Landscaping, newly sodded and lighting. Great place for the weekly free children’s movies and surf movies:
Gillian’s Funland Amusement Park. My kids love it:
New promenade in marina district:
Fish Alley sign. A bit controversial, but l like it:
of the beach at Keiki, on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
A powerful foam wave breaking onto the beach at Papaara in Tahiti
Perfect little G.I. Joe waves in Tahiti (If you were GI Joe, they’re a foot overhead).
A tubing wave captured against the evening twilight at Teahupoo on the island of Tahiti.
A big tubing wave at Teahupoo, on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia.
A set of large waves rolling into Pipeline, on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
NYC not so secret spot…

Terry Martin has been a shaper, currently for Hobie surfboards, for a long long long time. He claims to have shaped 75,000 boards. Check him out as he walks through the shaping of a perfect noserider. In admiring his work, you can understand why boards can exceed a thousand bucks these days…
This dude is old school “I bought this particular saw in 1963, and it’s never been sharpened.”
Beach erosion survey truck in Strathmere, NJ. Currently, there’s a major dredging effort underway and this 35 foot monster takes measurements of some sort.
