If government policies don’t recognize the need to sustain nature’s incredible range of economic services — from carbon-fixation to natural beauty for tourism — things go haywire.

    Postcard History of the Shore/Spinnaker

    Friday, April 17th, 2009

This is a great site for those that appreciate the

history of the Jersey Shore.  The West Jersey History

Project is dedicated to promoting and preserving the

history of West Jersey and beyond. Below is the

Inlet Store in TI.  Note the dirt roads.

There is a page on their site compiling postcards of days gone by.  A small sampling of some of the South Jersey communities appear below.  For the complete set of postcards, click on the name of each community and be sure to scroll through subsequent pages.  There’s lots to peruse:

Cape May          Ocean City           Sea Isle City           Stone Harbor        Avalon

    ———-

The Spinnaker Complex in Sea Isle City was built by Joseph Fabi Company of Atlantic City. Construction on the South Tower was begun in 1972.

A 1976 advertisement for the Spinnaker North Tower indicated that two bedroom unit prices started at $53,000 with 8-1/4% interest. Three bedroom end units were priced starting at approximately $10,000 additional.

    Gillian’s Progress/Susan Boyle Britain’s Got Talent

    Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

As previously reported, Gillian’s of Ocean City will be opening an amusement park in Sea Isle City.  Having seen the progress first hand over Easter, all indications are that the rides will be open by Memorial Day weekend.  The layout of the park is below.  A Ferris Wheel will provide a whole new perspective as you drive down the causeway and over the bridge into town.

Cheers to Gillian’s and welcome to Sea Isle!

    The latest internet video craze:

Susan Boyle, a  never married nor kissed 47 year old woman who lives only with her cats competed recently in the British reality show “Britain’s Got Talent.”

Don’t judge the book by the cover. Amazing…

    Miss You Already, Harry…

    Monday, April 13th, 2009

He’s the only voice I ever knew.

He started calling games with the

Phillies in 1971 which is just before

I was old enough to start  following

the game. Now, over 6,000 games

and 38 years later,  he’s gone.

    Really miss you already, Harry.
