Sea Isle amusement park idea throws some for a loop
Published: Wednesday, September 17, 2008
SEA ISLE CITY - Almost a decade after its only amusement park was sold to make room for townhouses, Sea Isle City is considering bringing merry-go-rounds back to the tourist-reliant town.
The city is considering leasing space near its downtown marina to amusement operators after the city completes a $3 million project that includes building a Boardwalk-type walkway along the bay at 42nd Place.
City Council held a public meeting Tuesday morning about bringing amusements to the area alongside the bridge where motorists enter the city from the Garden State Parkway.
But the concept drew a mixed reaction. Full Story…

“Anyone seen my hot dogs?” the Phillies’ Shane Victorino joked with his teammates before Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
He garnered a few chuckles, but an hour earlier, no one was laughing outside of Citizens Bank Park.
The discovery of several hot dogs in packages outside Citizens Bank Park brought the bomb squad out and forced the temporary evacuation of the stadium Wednesday evening.
According to police, Pattison Street between Darien and 11th Streets was shutdown as officials investigated the discovery of several suspicious packages near a ticket office.
Fans inside the stadium were evacuated, but players remained on the field during the incident.
Bomb squad members further investigated the packages and determined they were simply several hot dogs in foil wrappers. Sadly, the wieners were detonated as a precaution.
This year’s hot dog eating contest will be limited to 12 contestants.
First come…first served!
In conjunction with Sea Isle City’s Irish Weekend, the second annual Hot Dog Eating contest, benefiting the Fallen Heroes Fund, will take place this Saturday, September 20th at 3:00 in the La Costa parking lot in Sea Isle City.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!
Shoot me an email if you can help out. It will only take 30 minutes of your time.
Winner receives an Irish Flag Speedo (see below)!

Baseball Gods, Please let it happen again, please!!!!!

Today’s New York Post:
The only question now is whether yesterday’s latest ghastly meltdown by the bullpen in a 7-4 loss to the Braves damaged any internal organs.
A five-run nightmare in the ninth inning certainly didn’t help the Mets’ postseason chances or shoo away any of those lingering ghosts from last September’s historic collapse.
Once the carnage from yet another bullpen disaster was finally tallied and the Phillies had swept a doubleheader from the Brewers, the Mets’ lead in the NL East was down to one game.
With 14 games to play, is history unthinkably repeating itself?
“It’s going to be a tough two weeks for us,” said , yesterday’s starter who saw seven strong innings of work go up in smoke in the hideous ninth. Read more…

12 left to play. The Phils entered the weekend 4 out of the wild card, now they’re tied. Well done, Phils. It appears Burrell may have snapped out of his disastrous slump, Howard is going off, Victorino is stepping up, and Brett Myers has been the second best pitcher in baseball for the last month and a half. Break out those rally towels, folks. We’re going to have a fun two weeks.

Gasoline in Venezuela is $.25/gallon, the cheapest in the world. The only catch is, in order to take advantage, you have to live in Venezuela.FYI, in February, 2007, less than 2 years ago, gas was $1.97 per gallon at my local station. Check out prices in your area: Gas Buddy
Friend Lou Cerone was recently featured in an article about Sea Isle in the New York Times. Nice work, Oogie!
Havens | Sea Isle City, N.J.

ON THE NEW JERSEY SHORE Once envisioned as an American Venice, Sea Isle City is now a more modest community.
My sister is six years older than me, and she and her girlfriends had found Sea Isle,” said Mr. Cerone, who grew up in the Italian heart of South Philadelphia. “She beat it into me: ‘Sea Isle. Sea Isle. Sea Isle.’ So that’s where I came.”
Some two decades later, Mr. Cerone and his sister, Vicki Angelos, are still in Sea Isle City. They own side-by-side businesses now — Uncle Oogie’s Pizzeria and Sweet Pete’s, an ice-cream parlor, near 61st Street and Landis Avenue on this skinny barrier island 20 miles south of Atlantic City. Story…
The boardwalk project, recently approved by Sea Isle City Council, is available for download in power point by clicking below:

Had another amazing summer this year. We finished working 59th street yesterday (Labor Day) and will see you there next Memorial Day weekend. We’re not closed for the season yet, however. Fall Family Festival is September 13th at JFK and the Promendade. We’ll have the grill out for that one. Additionally, Irish Weekend is September 20th. We will be having another hot dog eating contest on that day. It will take place mid afternoon in La Costa parking lot (JFK and Landis Ave).
We’ll also be taking part in Sea Isle’s first Harbour Fest on October 4th. More details to follow.
We just received some nice accolades from Philadelphia Magazine and I’ll be heading to Sea Isle for a photo shoot tomorrow. Look for us in the late spring ‘09 issue, ”Guide to the Jersey Shore”
Great summer, everybody. As always, I appreciate your patronage.
