At age 25, I spent a good amount of time in Australia and spent my days on the beach and playing in this stuff (Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Bondi, etc…) Though my ability was not nearly that of the local populace, that trip remains a life highlight. These pix tell a bit of the story…
Is there any better feeling for a Phils fan then to watch what we did to the Muts last night? Jahan Santana pitches a gem through 8, only to watch his bullpen blow another game.
Best summer for waves in recent memory with still more swell on the way.

Looks like the swell from Cristobol is way down this morning, but don’t worry we have more surf on the way. A south windswell is going to build Wednesday from an approaching frontal system. By Thursday morning, seas will be in the 5-7ft range with winds going offshore sometime before lunch. Should be fun in the afternoon, and still plenty ridable on Friday. The longrange shows another swell to fill in Sunday. Stay tuned…TeddyD
Avalon Players, a great organization that puts on a different play every summer starring the little ones from the Sea Isle/Avalon/Stone Harbor area, is showing Beauty and the Beast this year. One of the little Bubba Dogs is in it as are several of the b dog nieces. It’s always a great show and a nice alternative to the shore vacation experience. This year the play is from August 1st-3rd. Check out their site: Avalon Players
This was the first competition where all 15 patrols from Brigantine-south participated. It was Sea Isle’s biggest out of town win in the history of the patrol. All of the same patrols will participate in the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships on Friday, August 8th in Ventnor. Playing that night at the Borgata are The Counting Crows and Maroon 5. Sea Isle Beach Patrol alumni and friends that would like to join us are most welcome! Send me an email and I’ll gladly fill in the details. Going to be a great night.

Couple of big wins in the Bubba Dog family. Daughter MC won the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s mascot school sand flags race and son TM on the podium after capturing the July 4th Junior Olympics long jump.
Max and I have been buddies since we were his daughter Sammy’s and my daughter Mattie’s age (7). Here they are after SICBP Mascot races. Sea Isle lifers…

Regular readers may be aware of my fondness for New Orleans. Fortunately, in spite of the ineptitude of the Bush administration, the city is coming back. Story from last week’s Inquirer:
Waves are getting there and water is warming up. Best session of summer ‘08 at 5:00 yesterday. Teddy’s latest:

Still not quite here….currently, the storm has 90mph winds and is moving slowly, but the swell is has yet to really show itself. We should see an increase today into Sunday (swell peaking Monday), but the swell have changed and it looks like we won’t see the size that was originally predicted. I hope this won’t be a dud…TeddyD

Jack and Bryce Wilson. Surprisingly, they love bubba dogs almost as much as Dad…
The top of the world - Everest…(random, I know, but a beautiful picture)
For those that missed it, here’s the interview of Bubba with Jen Frederich of Fox Philly (fast forward through the first 2/3rds by moving the little traingle cursor):
The good news…waves on the way (courtesy of Surfers Supplies):
Friday:
Pick a time to surf, any time…. Should be a full fun day of waves. The sun is forecast to shine, light ENE to SE winds are forecast and plenty of SE swell energy from Hurricane is expected. Your better beaches will see solid 4′ waves with larger sets! Enjoy..
The bad news…Just got out of the water this morning (Thursday). I’d guess that the water temp to be 55 degrees. It’s nearly mid-July and the water has yet to crack 60 degrees. Full suit recommended.
Fact: Eating hot dogs raises the core temperature and thereby makes wetsuits unnecessary. Eat more hot dogs.
There’s a unique tradition in Sea Isle where folks purchase benches along the promenade and are then permitted to inscribe messages on them, usually to Sea Isle lifers who have passed on. I’ve passed this bench countless times over the past few years and, though I never knew SGT. McGinnis nor his family, felt compelled to pay him a bit of homage. Thank you, Brian.

Had a good day yesterday (pic below of Marcus and I). Hope the weather holds this week. Water is absolutely frigid. 57ish on Tuesday. Ridiculously cold for July 1st. Offshore winds have been keeping it that way. Southerly started blowing about 3:00 today (Wednesday). Hope it warms it up by the weekend.
