Gordon Blows It/Sea Isle Cameras
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008Tom Gordon

Some good news on the relief front, we hope. Today the Phils signed Rudy Seanez, a 39 year old rightie recently released by the Dodgers. He had a terrible spring, but put up decent numbers last year. Gordon’s days appear to be numbered.

After Tom Gordon’s ERA ballooned to 135.00 when he gave up 5 runs in a third of the 9th inning yesterday, Pat Gillick moved swiftly to bring in reinforcements. The LA Times reports that the Phillies have signed right-hander Rudy Seanez, who was released by the Dodgers last week, and the reliever will be activated before tomorrow night’s game with the Nats. An experienced (old) and well-traveled reliever who still has a live arm, Seanez is the kind of pitcher the Phillies bullpen needed, although the unit is still far from dependable. In 76 innings last season, Seanez was 6-3 with a save, 73 Ks, and a 3.79 ERA.
