Bub,
Don't get caught up in the Ryan Howard making less than Adam Eaton crap. I know that's a fact but its a lame argument. Adam Eaton was singed to a long term contact as a FREE AGENT, that's it. Ryan Howard won't reach his free agent year until the 2011 season. I think even the Phillies owners are willing to tell you that Ryan Howard is more valuable to the team than Adam Eaton but the economics of the game will prevent him from realizing his "true worth" until he either signs a long term deal ( hopefully soon or at least before his free agent year) or he continues with 1yr arbitration mandated deals until he is eligible for the ultimate prize, free agency. The Phils locked up Utley and J. Ro to lucrative long term deals, well before their free agent years. I think they'd love to do the same with Howard but it seems like the number he expects is way above those two. Maybe it should be and at some point I'm sure he'll get it but Utley and J. Ro gave up TOP dollar for the security of a long term deal at something less. Seems Ryan wants TOP dollar and the security of a long term deal now. Yes this could come back to bite the PHils in the ass but I don't think it classifies them as cheap. I'm more bothered by the fact they didn't bite the bullet and sign Rowand. For what he meant to the team, the city, and the clubhouse, I think he was worth it. Ryan will get his, just not yet.
