I’d like to extend my personal congratulations to Mr. Leo Carlin for his being nominated for the National Football League Hall of Fame.  Click below for today’s Philly Inquirer article and the Philadelphia Eagles website for a video tribute:

Mr. Leo Carlin, Hall of Fame Nominee

Mr. Carlin was always a profound figure in my upbringing in Sea Isle. This past summer, I wrote the following post about Mr. Carlin after rekindling an old friendship with his son, Chris:

One of the great things about spending summers down here, correction, the GREATEST thing about spending summers down here is the relationships formed throughout the years. One of my closest friends as a kid was Chris Carlin. We partnered as lifeguards for three years as teenagers after having been surfing buddies on 76th street since age 9. Chris and I have been fortunate to re-connect lately and hopefully he’ll get a place in SIC so we can hang that much more. His father and mother were two of the kindest people I’ve ever come across. Chris’s pop is THE ticket guy for the Eagles. Email me for his cell phone number (just kiddin’ Mr. C). Mr. Carlin is celebrating a major birthday milestone this evening and I had the occasion to wish him a Happy B-Day just last night. When at work during the Terrell Owens fiasco a couple years back, his tag line when answering the telephone was, “Forget about T.O., you’re talking to Leo.” Having heard him say it on WIP radio, I had to inquire about it last night, much to the chagrin of his kids. They were hoping to never hear it again. Happy birthday, Mr. Carlin.
