Meet the Mets!
What a feeling. Not one person in this town could have scripted this season to conclude any sweeter than it did. Outside of Billy Wagner getting caught on camera in a fling with Jose Reyes (yes, I would post it here), this thing could not have ended any better. Speaking of Reyes, there’s something up with that dude. Don’t quite know what it is (too much partying, too much money at such a young age, etc…) but something is not right. He was an absolute stud halfway through the season and then he just tanked.
Did you know the last time Glavine got yanked in the first inning was in May of 1989!!!? That was 18 years ago!
Pre-game quote: Asked to rank this start in importance in his Mets career, Glavine said: “It’s certainly one of, if not the most important one, I’ve had, obviously. It’s hard to say it’s any more important than a playoff game that I pitched last year.”
His line: Seven runs in one-third of an inning by the Marlins in Sunday’s finale. A disaster. Glavine allowed five hits, walked two and hit Dontrelle Willis with a pitch before Jorge Sosa replaced him. HE MANAGED TO GET ONLY ONE OUT! His last game ever for the Mets and the most important, and he gives up seven in the first and hits the opposing pitcher, the ninth batter that inning! I wonder if that will be mentioned in his Hall of Fame speech?
I’m not going to get into a debate about Philly as a football or baseball town. It’s kind of a foolish argument. The fact is that, when the Phillies win, it’s a baseball town. When the Eagles win, it’s a football town. However, it does seem that when the Phils make the playoffs, the town is buzzing moreso than when the Eagles are in the dance. No offense to the Eagles recent success. I was right on board. You think it’s fun around here now? Imagine three weeks from now if they make/win the Series. I know I’ll be bellied up at Dirty Franks for that parade.Regardless, the Eagles are now in the toilet and the Phils just completed one of the more remarkable seasons in recent Major League history. An issue, however, is that so did the Rockies. It’s going to be an amazing series, y’all.
