    What a day!

    Monday, September 24th, 2007

    27.jpg34.jpg

Well, it was a great day. We ended up with 10 contestants on Saturday and had a phenomenal time. Most importantly, we raised $2000 for the Fallen Heroes Fund. The winner was Gentleman Joe Menchetti who gobbled 18 hot dogs in 12 minutes. It seems that Joe was taking it easy as he knew he had it in the bag. Below are the pix from the day (click on them for larger view). The weather cooperated and we ended up moving from the promenade at JFK to the La Costa complex parking lot. This proved to be the right move as most of the festivities were taking place in this area anyway.

Thanks to everyone who assisted, especially Marc, Marcus, Conor, Avery and Brigitte Dent, Bill and Madison McGinn, Kevin and Andrew Murray, Chris Hoey, Mickey Melison, Will Robinson, Jim Bennett, Brian and Colin Brady, Carly, Uncle Oogies, Jamaican Me Crazy, Acme Markets, Ginsburg Bakery, Stroehman Bakery, Tony Coppola of the Smithville Inn and Fred & Ethels, Chris Kirchner, Ellen Lee, and, most importantly, my amazing wife Kristen and my mother, Mary Jo.

If there was any question as to the intent of the contest, it was to benefit these amazing young people featured below. Give a few minutes to watch and remember those that are thousands of miles away from their families, volunteering themselves and their own safety in order to keep all of us safe back home. Thanks to B. Dent for the link:

Gentleman Joe Menchetti Will Join Us!

    Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

The contest will be taking place at 4 p.m. on Saturday on the Promenade at JFK Boulevard in Sea Isle City.  Irish Weekend Festival begins at La Costa at 11 a.m. and runs until 9 p.m.  There will be plenty of great things going on around the area, not the least of which is the opportunity to eat your last Bubba Dog of the year!  My hot dog cart, before and after the contest, will be set up adjacent to La Costa.  Looking forward to seeing everybody in Sea Isle.

Gentleman Joe, one of the best competitive eaters in the world, will be joining us for the hot dog contest. This guy can really eat. He’s won a number of competitions in his eating career and will be a worthy challenge on Saturday. Check out some of his accomplishments:

    Thanks La Costa and Phils

    Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Many thanks to La Costa lounge and Jim Bennett in Sea Isle City for stepping up and co-sponsoring the Hot Dog Contest.  Irish weekend is this Saturday.  Contest is at 4 pm.  Come on down to SIC!

Huge shout out to the Phils for, once again, sweeping the Mets.

Anyone that thinks Jose Reyes is in the same league as Jimmy Rollins’ need only look at the Mets eighth straight loss to the Phillies and the bonehead play he made early which cost the Mets two runs. Overrated is an understatement. Heck, his bobblehead can’t even touch JRolls.

By the way, how the heck can Antonio Alfonseca call himself a professional athlete? Think about how much time this guy has in his workday to at least attempt a sit-up and he chooses to, instead, look like this:

What a disgrace. Did you know that the dude has six fingers on both hands?  Here’s an image of him when he played for the Marlins (trust me that, while you can’t see the thumb, it’s on the other side of the ball. # 6 is the little stub).

HOT DOG CONTEST $15.00 (not $40.00) and Bubba Dog Wear on Sale!!!

    Friday, September 7th, 2007

For those that may have noticed, the registration form states that the cost of the contest is $40. THIS IS A MISTAKE! I have a call into the web master to make the change but, in the interim, take note that it’s only $15.00.

    Prizes for contest:

    • Flyers Club Box Seats
    • Limousine Service
    • Restaurant Gift Certificates to:
      • Smithville Inn
      • Lobster Loft

    and much more….

Contestants recieve a limited edition t-shirt and the privelege of taking part in the first annual. The expectation is that this event will grow and grow, so think of it as a great story to tell the grandkids that you took part in the first!

Contest is 15 days from now and space is limited. Sign up now! All info can be found above in “Bubba Dog Hot Dog Contest” link.

We have some great eaters signed up already. Check out this video of their previous eating feat:

Big Momma is Coming to Sea Isle!

Some sweatshirts, pink ladies tees and white t-shirts still remain. Click on “Bubba Dog Store” icon to check them out. My hope is to have additional apparel on sale within the next month or two.

If you’d like to purchase, tees are $15.00 and sweatshirts are $35.00 (plus shipping). Paypal is forthcoming, but your better bet is to shoot me an email and we can arrange payment and shipping that way.

Sweatshirts are the most comfortable that you’ve ever worn, by the way.

Phillies rookie John Ennis pitched an effective four innings on Saturday to keep Phillies wildcard hopes alive.  Though not widely reported, he was suffering through a severe case of hemorrhoids throughout.  He would have lasted at least a couple more innings if not for the major flare-up following this pitch in the fourth:

Erving vs. Bird and the 1980 Philly Season

    Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Not sure what got me thinking of the Sixers, especially since I could care less about the NBA anymore. There was a time, for many of us, when the Sixers were the number one in Philly. Dr. J, in my case, had everything to do with that. The Sixers/Celtics/Lakers games on Sunday afternoons were priceless.

Never forget my senior year in high school when my two favorite athletes finally came to blows… November 9, 1984. I know, I said it. Bird was, and always has been, my favorite athlete of all time. Easily he is the most fundamentally sound athlete ever who made the most out of everything he was given. Those two players fueled my sports bug throughout high school and college.

    Erving vs. Bird
    Julius top ten dunks:
    Bird Hall of Fame video:

In 1980 when I was 13 years old, all four Philly professional teams made their respective championships. This was the beginning of the glory days for professional sports. Not only in our city, but in all leagues. Many in our championship-deprived city may have forgotten the glory days of 27 years ago. The Eagles lost to the Raiders in the Super Bowl; the Sixers lost to the Lakers in the NBA Finals; the Flyers lost to the Islanders for the Stanley Cup; and, finally, the Phillies beat the Royals in the World Series. I was in attendance for game two with my Dad and two big brothers. I remember well watching Mike Schmidt hit a two run knock off of Dan Quisenberry to take a one run lead.

Could you imagine what the Philly sports scene would be like if our teams could repeat those days?

    Is It Really Over?

Shout out to Kenric for putting up the contest link at the top of this page. Thanks, dude.

Thanks for checking out my site, everybody. I’ll continue posting throughout the winter months. Maybe someday we’ll be able to hang “…where the summer never ends.” (Garrett Dutton)

Below video should help to keep us all warm: (JJ is singing and surfing in this clip)

By the way, I heard a rumor that Twisties may be undergoing a renovation. Anyone have any info?

See you all at Fall Fest and Hot Dog Contest!
